The Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs has introduced a new online platform enabling citizens to report aggressive driving on the country's roads. This initiative aims to curb dangerous driving behaviours, thereby reducing serious road traffic incidents. The MAI platform has already registered around 30 complaints within the first two days of its launch.
The application, accessible at hub.mai.gov.ro under the section ESAR (Road Traffic Offence Reports), requires users to create and validate an account through the entry of personal data such as address, telephone number, and email. These requirements are part of ensuring the authenticity of the information provided.
Upon logging in, users may submit a detailed form containing information about the traffic incident, such as date, time, location, and the registration number of the offending vehicle. They are also encouraged to attach video or audio evidence to support their report.

For a report to be deemed valid, it must be submitted within 30 days from the incident's occurrence. The complainant must also upload clear recordings and provide personal identification details, including a declaration of the correctness of the information provided.
The types of driving behaviours that can be reported include weaving between lanes to overtake, making sudden stops to intimidate other drivers, and using excessive sound or light signals unjustifiably. Upon submission, Romanian police officers will review the reports to verify their validity before identifying and potentially sanctioning the aggressive drivers.
Fines for aggressive driving behaviour currently range between 660-825 Romanian lei (approximately 135-170 euros), alongside a temporary suspension of the driver's licence for 30 days.
The launch of this app represents a significant step towards enhancing road safety by empowering citizens to report dangerous driving and reinforcing the enforcement of existing traffic regulations. Authorities urge all drivers to use the platform responsibly to maintain a safer driving environment for everyone.
