Romania has achieved a notable milestone as CFR Călători, the national railway operator, introduced its first new electric train, the Alstom Coradia Stream, into service on 20 November. This modern train, comprising six carriages, offers a seating capacity for 351 passengers and is set to run on the bustling route linking Bucharest Nord to Brașov via Prahova Valley.

The train's addition results from a contract between Autoritatea pentru Reformă Feroviară (ARF) and manufacturer Alstom Ferroviaria S.p.A., aiming to enhance passenger rail transport across the country. Designed with a low-floor structure to facilitate easy access for passengers with reduced mobility, the model supports a maximum operational speed of 160 km/h.

Aligned with the public service agreement between CFR Călători and ARF, ticket prices for this route are set at 63 lei for second class and 91 lei for first class. The debut journey from Bucharest to Brașov starts at 9:30 AM, with the return scheduled at 3:20 PM.

Beyond the initial service, the train's schedule from 21 November to 14 December 2024 includes an early morning departure at 5:40 AM from Bucharest and an 8:43 AM return from Brașov. This schedule is expected to cater to both business and leisure travellers seeking a reliable and comfortable journey.

The introduction of the Alstom Coradia Stream is anticipated to significantly improve travel convenience on this popular route, particularly in providing a faster and more environmentally friendly alternative. Importantly, maintenance for these units will be handled by Alstom, ensuring high standards of operational reliability and safety.
